Brain Care Centre Client Races in World Triathlon

On July 29, 2017, Edmonton’s own Greg Shimizu will be participating in the ITU World Triathlon in support of mild traumatic brain injury. Greg Shimizu suffered a mild traumatic brain injury in 2012 after being struck by a van while cycling.  Now, as a brain injury survivor and activist, he is participating in the ITU World Triathlon on July 29th 2017 and is raising funds to support Brain Care Centre – an Edmonton based nonprofit organization whose goal is to create brain injury awareness and provide rehabilitation for those who have suffered an acquired brain injury.

Greg, as a former client of Brain Care Centre, spent a year participating in BCC’s specialized Post-Concussion program. This program provides counselling, occupational therapy, assistive device training, and a support group for those who have gone through a mild traumatic brain injury. Greg describes the connections he made with others while in the program “life-saving.”

All funds raised by Greg for the ITU World triathlon will go to Brain Care Centre to raise awareness for mild traumatic brain injury and to support the rehabilitation of those affected by brain injury in our communities. Donations towards Greg’s cause can be made on Eventbrite at https://gregstriathlon.eventbrite.ca up until race day - July 29th, 2017.
