Brain Care Centre aims to be the single point of entry for adults accessing community-based brain injury resources. Brain Care Centre offers comprehensive and long-term services that are accessible for life time or as need dictates. The following are some Alberta brain injury specific community resources that we coordinate services with:
Alberta Brain Injury The Alberta Brain Injury Initiative (ABII) supports adults with an acquired brain injury to live, work, and participate in their communities. ABII is a network of agencies across the province that assist survivors and their families in accessing support services from various programs and community resources.
Alberta Brain Injury Initiative Survival Guide – This accessible and comprehensive guide covers most of the basics about brain injury along with Alberta specific information and resources. This is a good place to start learning about brain injuries.
BAM (Brain Awareness Movement) – A University of Alberta student group dedicated to raising awareness about brain injury and advocating for brain injury.
Brain Injury Canada – A national charitable organization focused on education, awareness, and advocacy for the brain injury community.
Corbett Clinic – Physical Therapy Clinic – The Corbett Hall Student Physical Therapy Clinic is a non-profit clinic operated within the Department of Physical Therapy. Physical therapy students take primary responsibility for providing assessment or rehabilitation under the supervision of licensed physical therapists.
Corbett Clinic – The Speech Pathology Clinic – The Corbett Hall Speech-Language Clinic is located within the Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine at the University of Alberta and provides a wide range of Speech-Language Pathology services.
Networks Activity Centre – Networks provides a safe, supportive environment for adults with brain injury. They promote an active lifestyle through opportunities for social interaction, physical activity, and community involvement. Networks’ goal is to enhance the quality of life for those with brain injury through recreation, social, and community involvement.
Return to Work Roadmap – The Return to Work Roadmap is meant to provide a high-level overview of the “typical” return to work journey, knowing that each stroke and brain injury survivor’s journey is unique. Please note: Page 2 of the Roadmap has several resources hyperlinked.
Skills Society – The Skills Society works to remove barriers and empower people with disabilities to thrive in everyday life – in doing so, they help people to create meaningful lives and explore opportunities for learning, growth, inclusion and belonging as full citizens in community.
Steadward Centre – The Steadward Centre for Personal and Physical Achievement is a disability research centre at the University of Alberta, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada that provides physical activity and sport programs for people with disabilities.
Taproot – Provides social services to children, youth, adults and families facing difficulties. They take a personalized, trauma-informed approach to care in an environment of cultural respect and support.
