At the Brain Care Centre, we’re seeking compassionate and outgoing volunteers to support our clients in various capacities. By dedicating your time, you will directly impact the life of someone living with a brain injury.
As a volunteer, you’ll also gain valuable experience in the non-profit sector and health services field.
Ways to Volunteer
Leisure Companion Volunteer (Requires a MINIMUM 6-month commitment)
- Provide companionship, support, and socialization to Brain Care Centre’s clients living with acquired brain injuries.
- Activities may include playing card games, going for walks, going for coffee, visiting recreation centres, and attending community events.
- Create a positive impact in an individual’s life and contribute to your community.
- Help the assigned client reach their goals.
- Collaboratively set goals with the client.
- Make necessary accommodations to ensure the client’s success.
- Contribute to the client’s development through conversation and interaction.
- Encourage and support the client.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of the client.
- Maintain open communication with the Volunteer Coordinator and Service Coordinator.
Events Volunteer
Volunteers provide all required support at Brain Care Centre’s special events and fundraising opportunities. All proceeds of these events go towards providing free services to persons living with traumatic brain injuries in Edmonton/Edson and area. Become a special event volunteer and gain experience in non-profit fundraising, plus make a positive impact on the lives of those living with acquired brain injuries.
Responsibilities vary by event, but may include some or all of the following:
- Selling 50/50 or raffle tickets
- Working a fundraising casino
- Working a registration table
- Helping out at an auction
- Sitting at a hole for a day of golf, talking to golfers about Brain Care Centre
- Setting up or tearing down an event site
- Greeting and being a friendly face for attendees
- Providing basic event information to attendees
- Performing pre-event preparation, including packing and assembling event material
Front Desk Volunteer
Groups and Classes Volunteer
Volunteers assist Brain Care Centre staff members that are facilitating workshops, support groups, and other tasks related to a person living with a traumatic brain injury. Activities and tasks may be to present material assigned, provide support, communication, documentation, and socialization in the group.
Responsibilities include:
- Help the assigned client reach their goals.
- Assist the Brain Care Centre staff members in any way possible.
- Make necessary accommodations to ensure the client’s success.
- Contribute to the client’s development through conversation and interaction.
- Encourage and support the client.
- Participate with the group and be engaging with the clients.
- Ensure the safety and wellbeing of the clients.
- Uphold open communication with the Volunteer Coordinator and Group/Class Facilitator.
